Peter Quaife

Peter Quaife's dialysis cartoons

"Hello fellow dialysis patients. For the last 10 years, I have been a dialysis patient. During those long, boring, sessions, I found that drawing cartoons was an amusing outlet for all of my frustrations with the condition, the hospital and even at times, the professionals that were treating me.

I hope you can enjoy the humour in these cartoons - I know I certainly enjoyed creating them! I have tried to make light of the various situations that I know we have all had to endure at one time or another.

I hope these cartoons will make your situation a little better, wherever you may be. Remember, there is always humour - even in the deepest despair.

Many Regards,

Peter Quaife"

About Peter Quaife

Peter Quaife was born in Tavistock, Devon on 31st December 1943. As a founder member of the rock and roll group The Kinks, he gained fame in 1964 when the band soared to Number 1 on the British pop charts with "You Really Got Me" In the UK during the 60's The Kinks were second only to The Beatles in popularity.

"You Really Got Me" has been claimed by critics to have invented Heavy Metal and was the first hit song to be based around "Power Chords" (Running with the Devil: Power, Gender and Madness in Heavy Metal Music )

The Kinks remained a musical force throughout the 1960's with such classics as:

1964 "You Really Got Me" (#1 UK, #7 US)
1964 "All Day And All Of The Night" (#2 UK, #7 US)
1965 "Tired Of Waiting For You" (#1 UK, #6 US)
1966 "Dedicated Follower Of Fashion" (#4 UK, #36 US)
1966 "Sunny Afternoon" (#1 UK, #14 US)
1967 "Waterloo Sunset" (#2 UK)
1968 "Days" (#12 UK)
1970 "Lola" (#2 UK, #9 US)

In 1990 Peter was inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. At the time, only 3 other British bands were inducted, The Beatles (1988), The Rolling Stones (1989) and The Who (1990)

In 2005 Peter and The Kinks were inducted into the UK Music Hall of Fame.

Having grown tired of the rock and roll lifestyle, Peter left The Kinks in 1969 to pursue other artistic endeavours, including painting and writing. He moved to Ontario, Canada in 1981 where he indulged in drawing political cartoons for local newspapers. In 1998, Peter was diagnosed with kidney failure. Most of Peter's cartoons were drawn while at the Belleville Dialysis Clinic.
