Just returned back for my THIRD visit to the Hospital Bavaro in March 2009. Staff welcomed me back and again so friendly, I have read the report from the last person and Some things I do not agree with I think the person is a bit to picky. Being ill is not a chore it’s life and you should always be positive about it not negative.
Firstly where does it state Ocean view? My Wife Linda attended every time with me and sat next to me all the time. There is a waiting room across the corridor. DR SANCHEZ dose sometimes nod of but what else is there to do if all is going well for 4 hours Some times he is late as he comes from the other hospital. Remember you are in the Caribbean so chill out and relax. These kind people are doing you a favour while on holiday or you would not be able to travel abroad. There is a toilet and wash room at the end of the treatment room. The staff do there best to communicate with you and the receptionist would always come up if there was a problem with communication. Rosemary is the main nurse in the treatment room
Back to my own comments the contact at the hospital is
Jaqueline Ruiz jackline.ruiz@hospiten.com every time a have gone to there hospital she as been great in keeping me informed of what is going on before I travel. Communicating with my self and my own hospital Coordinator.
She has informed me since my last visit that they are having trouble to find a Doctor for treatments so you will have to contact her to confirm Dialysis still can take place there. This is a great country and the people are some of the friendliest you could ever meet. Remember to live you life to the full and when and where you can travel to do it.
The treatment room is very clean and as 5 stations don’t let other people put you off I have sent about 12 people from all over the world all have sent me reports back of how much they have enjoyed there stay here for treatment on my recommendation
The staff keep a check on you every hour taking blood pressure and etc in between watching you asking if you are feeling OK.
I will still go back to them if a Doctor is allocated and I still keep in touch with Jaqueline and Rosemary. My next trip is to Jamaica I hope the service is as good as here in the Dominican Republic If you would like to contact me over any issues please e-mail me at Keith@booth106.freeserve.co.uk I have some photos I can send you. They call me the Goble trotter at my Local hospital as When I can I travel and try new places to have my Dialysis I have been to Barbados, Cancun Mexico And 3 times to this Hospital in this short period since diagnosed.

I WAS THERE 11-19 @ 21, 2007. I WALKED OUT ON THE 23 WHEN THE DOCTOR DID NOT KEEP THE APPOINTMENT, HE WAS 2&1/2 HOURS LATE. THEY SAID HE WOULD BE THER BY 3:30, I HAD A 1PM APPOINTMENT & WAS THERE @ 12:30. THEY LOST MY BLOOD TEST, SO I HAD TO PAY 75$(USA) TO PROVE I WAS NOT HIV. GIETA WAS THE(?)TECH, SHE WAS NOT A NURSE! SHE HAD NO IDEA WHERE TO PLACE THE IVS IN MY ARM.
SHE ALMOST PLACED ONE IN MY ANASTAMOSIS. DR. SANCHEZ HAD TO PLACE ONE IN ON THE FIRST DAY. THE SECEND VISIT SHE PLACED THEM WHERE I TOLD HER TOO. THE WHOLE TIME I WAS ON THE MACHINE. DR SANCHEZ SNORED AWAY!! MY WIFE HEARD HIM IN THE WAITING ROOM. THE WASTE BOTTLES STAYED THERE ALL WEEK AND WERE NOT EMPTIED AFTER EACH TREATMENT. THERE IS NO PLACE TO WASH YOUR ARE IN THE ROOM. THE TECH OPENED STERILE SOLUITIONS WITH A PEN TOP & RAN HER GLOVED HANDS THROUGHT HER HAIR & THEN WANTED TO PLACE THE NEEDLES IN. THE PLACE IS CLEAN, BUT THEIR IDEA OF STERILE IS NOT UP TO USA STANDARDS. THE STAFFS ENGLISH IS MINIMAL AT BEST BUT THERE IS NO ONE ON THE DIALYSIS ROOM WHO SPEAKS ENGLISH AT ALL. ALSO THERE IS NO OCEAN VIEW. JUST JUNGLE & A CEMENT PLANT.

I visited the Dominican Republic during October 2006. This was my first time abroad after being diagnosed with Renal failure 12month early. I dialysised at the Hospiten Bavaro. I was very apprehensive at first before I arrived there as not knowing what to expect. These doubts were soon cleared when I arrived and was hooked up on the machine. I was the first person from my local Hospital back in the UK to travel to Dominican Republic for Dialysis and hopefully not the last.
The arrangements I made with Jacquelin Reuz at the Hospital we kept in touch with all the developments of my visit.
There are 5 machines clean tidy air-conditioned room.
The staff Dr Sanchez made a special trip from the other Hospital in the group especially for me to be on hand if there were any problems.
The nursing staff Rosemary spoke Spanish and little English
Elizabeth translated for me.
They were first class I will be back to in future
