Davita Crescent Heights, Los angeles "We came from Canada to visit LA in the spring of 2011. Since my husband is on home hemo, which allows him to eat almost anything and, overall, feel healthy, the chance to have nocturnal dialysis was a huge benefit. The first night he arrived to discover that what the unit offers is barebones; no blanket, pillow, or snacks. But they did supply the most important necessity; clean treatment in the hands of competent professionals. The second night, he came prepared with a blanket, pillow and sleep mask. The only thing missing was ear plugs. To cap it off, there are interesting diners open all night where you can get a hearty breakfast before 7 am, which is where we met there to begin our days. If nocturnal dialysis was offered in other countries it would open up a world of travel. Portable units, that enable patients to do home hemo on the road, are not yet available where we are located." Caribbean Dialysis, Barbados
Just got back after 5 sessions at the Caribbean Dialysis Barbados Inc. I kept in touch with Prof Nickolson with my hospital before arriving for treatment. My wife and myself were made very welcome by all the staff. This was my first time at the centre not to Barbados, and we will return. Trying to find Dialysis on vacation is a nightmare. This centre made everything painless and wonderful. Arranged pickup early morning from my timeshare, the coordinator was extremely helpful and available via her cell phone and the facility is beautiful and well staffed. My wife was able to come to the facility use the wireless and if she wanted use the pool. If your are on dialysis and are looking for a vacation destination consider Crete. kgould 25 October 2011

I attended three session recently, and am accustomed to private and public dialysis units in both Australia and the UK. My principal concern was cross infection. Their procedures were excellent and I felt totally comfortable. Despite paperwork from Australia they did screening tests before I went on the machine, and naturally I came back with no infection. The staff were professional and provided the correct dialyser, Clexane and a lengthy 5.5 hours treatment as requested. Only negative - if you get hungry during dialysis take your own food = but they say that is changing!
