4 bedroom villa in Menorca
The villa is on a large plot, quite private and situated in a quiet area of Calan Porter. It is close to the spectacular caves of Cova Den Xoroi. The resort centre is about a 10 minute walk from the villa and the beach is about 15 minutes walk. Satellite pictures from Google Earth (You will need to install Google Earth to see them)
Calan PorterLocated in the resort of Calan Porter on the south coast of Menorca, part of the Balearic Islands and the most easterly part of Spain. Calan Porter has a beautiful sandy beach in a cove, with pedalos and sun beds for hire. The beach is about a 15 minute walk down a steep hill, but luckily there is a "wally" train that goes back up the hill and straight past the villa - ask the driver to drop you off on the way. The resort has plenty of shops for lilos and beach toys as well as several good supermarkets - some will deliver your shopping for free. The resort is great for families, with lots of child friendly bars and restaurants. In the evenings, several bars have entertainment, including quiz nights and tribute singers. Close by is Cales Coves, which is great for snorkelling, although the access road is a little bumpy. It is a favourite spot for naturists too! The Island of Menorca has plenty of places to visit. The capital of Mahon has the 2nd deepest natural harbour in the world, a wonderful harbour side walk and has both British and French architectural influences from the C18th. Lord Nelson once stayed here. It is also home to the Menorcan Gin distillery as well as plenty of shopping and weekly markets. Around the corner from Mahon is Es Castell, formerly Georgetown and has a wonderful harbour for evening meals. West of the island is the old capital of Ciutadella which looks more Spanish architecturally and home of the Festes de Sant Joan. North of the island is Fornells harbour famous for lobster and visits from the King of Spain. In the centre of the island is Monte Toro, a monastery sits on the top and most of the island can be seen on a clear day. Not far from Monte Toro is a Lladro museum. Menorca is reputed to have 365 beaches, as well as Calan Porter, my favourites are Cala Galdana, Es Grau and Cala Macarella. There are plenty of watersports all over the island - scuba diving, sailing, sailboarding and the evening Equestrian Show is well worth a visit.
DialysisThere are dialysis units at the state run Hospital Virge del Toro in Mahon (about 30 minutes drive) and a private clinic at Cliniquea Menorca in Ciutadella (about 45 minutes drive) Parking and finding both of the units can be a little tricky, so give yourself plenty of time for your first journey. A taxi will cost about 25 euros to Mahon. I have visited both, they are both small rooms but the staff have been very friendly in the past and there is always a nephrologist in the room. Visitors were not allowed at the state hospital, but they were allowed at the private clinic. The dialysis room at the private clinic is literally next door to a small hospital cafe bar. Both of the units are within a 15 minute stroll of the centre. The villa is all on one level, but access is via a short steep drive and isn't very suitable for wheelchairs. Calan Porter is also hilly so car hire is highly recommended for getting about. BookingsThe villa has been completely refurbished for 2006 and is now available for bookings
