February 2006. My wife attended a conference in Merida Mexico this past February. I found the Centro de Hemodialisis de Merida located in the Clinica de Merida through the Global Dialysis database and an internet search. I dialysed there three times. This is a nice clinic. Dr. Fernando Gallegos was very helpful and made my time in his unit very pleasant. His two nurses, senoritas Azucena y Lupita were very competent. They were very patient trying to understand my poor Spanish. Only Dr Gallegos spoke english. I recommend this clinic highly to dialysis patients who like to travel. Best way to get to Clinica Merida is tell the taxi driver "Clinica Merida". The clinic is well known in Merida. It does not take long after treatment to find a taxi.

We visited the Celestun National Park which is about 60 miles from Merida. Among other things, we saw the pink flamingos. Also we were able to visit two Mayan ruin sites Chichen Itza and Uxmal. Both sites were impressive. I was too tired to see the light show at Uxmal. They are supposed to open up more of Chichen Itza to the public in a couple of years. Gives us a reason to go back. We stayed at a nice hotel, Fiesta Americana. This was a good choice for us. We are not interested in the nightlife. If they had night entertainment, it did not wake us. Columbus, GA
